Description

Originally selected as a SHO target during the last full moon cycle and just enough time was devoted to show there is quite a bit of structure within the nebula.  More time, especially SII, would definitely benefit the details.  A bit of pushing the SHO color palette was made to help this frequently ignored DSO to stand out as worthy of making a target list.

The Little Rosette Nebula (Sh2-170, LBN 577) is an emission nebula in Cassiopeia about 7500 light years distant.  It lies within the Perseus arm of our galaxy.  In the nebula center is Stock 18 - a small, young cluster of stars.   (Baerenstein Observatory)

Image taken over several nights:  Sept 19, 23-26, 2021.

Although this nebula is listed in Lynds Catalogue of Bright Nebulae catalog, it is generally perceived as a somewhat dim nebula.  It is brightest in Ha, dimmer in SII and very dim in OIII (center only). No signal was seen in SII or OIII in three minute individual frames.
